Lugano brings crypto payments to high fashion

By Redaktion cvj.ch on 25. March 2023 News

Lugano's Bitcoin initiative (Plan B) is expanding its payment solutions with fashion company Guess into high fashion retail, further solidifying the Swiss city's position as a crypto hub.

Plan B is a joint initiative between the city of Lugano and Tether aimed at accelerating the use of Bitcoin technology. As part of the collaboration, a range of services for businesses and consumers is being facilitated. Now, the joint initiative is expanding its support to the fashion industry, enabled through a partnership with the fashion company Guess.

Lugano has quickly adopted new technologies, and cryptocurrencies are no exception. Bitcoin offers a range of unique advantages that make it ideal for use in retail, including:

    • Secure: Bitcoin uses advanced encryption techniques to ensure that transactions are secure and cannot be manipulated.
    • Efficient: Bitcoin enables fast and efficient transactions without requiring intermediaries like banks.
    • Decentralized: Bitcoin is not controlled by a single entity, making the cryptocurrency immune to manipulation and corruption.

Given these advantages, the Lugano initiative already enables over 150 businesses (e.g. McDonald's) to accept various cryptocurrencies as payment. The Guess boutique, centrally located in the Ticino city, is an ideal place for tourists to experiment with digital assets in the real world.

"The inclusion of Guess in the list of companies now accepting cryptocurrencies in Lugano is a milestone on the road to the full adoption and spread of blockchain in the region. It strengthens public interest in using cryptocurrencies to pay for goods and services." -Michele Foletti, Mayor of Lugano

Easy payment solutions for businesses and residents

The services of the Plan B initiative are designed to simplify cryptocurrency payments as much as possible. When making a purchase, customers have the option to pay using a secure and fast Bitcoin solution (Lightning Network). They can scan a QR code or enter a payment address into their digital wallet, and the transaction is then processed through the blockchain - a decentralized ledger that records all transactions in the network. This ensures that the transaction is secure and cannot be manipulated.

For buyers, the benefits of Plan B's crypto payment solution lie in the convenience and security of transactions. But the advantages of Bitcoin payments are not limited to buyers. Retailers can also benefit from many positive aspects, according to Lugano's mayor. With the new payment method, businesses have lower transaction costs, faster processing times, and less paperwork.
