    Dust

    Im Kryptowährungsbereich stösst man oft auf den Begriff Dust. Dabei handelt es sich um winzige Restbeträge von Coins oder Tokens, die nach Transaktionen in Wallets verbleiben und meist zu klein sind, um noch gehandelt oder übertragen zu werden.

    Dust entsteht nach Tauschvorgängen oder Handel auf Börsen und kann sowohl harmlos als auch problematisch sein. Während es Wallets unübersichtlich macht, bergen Dust-Mengen auch Sicherheitsrisiken: sogenannte Dusting-Attacken nutzen sie, um Nutzer zu deanonymisieren. Viele Börsen bieten daher Funktionen an, um Dust in handelbare Coins wie Bitcoin oder BNB umzuwandeln und so den Wert nutzbar zu machen.

    Was ist Dust?

    Dust bezeichnet extrem kleine Mengen an Kryptowährungen, deren Wert so gering ist, dass eine Transaktion die Gebühren übersteigen würde. Diese Beträge entstehen oft als Rest nach Tausch oder Handel auf zentralen und dezentralen Börsen. Für Nutzer ist Dust meist harmlos, kann jedoch Wallets unübersichtlich machen. Börsen wie Binance oder Coinbase haben spezielle Funktionen eingeführt, die Dust automatisch in grössere Token wie Bitcoin oder BNB umwandeln. So können Trader den Wert trotzdem nutzen und ihre Wallet sauber halten.

    Neben der Unübersichtlichkeit kann Dust auch für Angriffe missbraucht werden. Dusting-Attacken senden kleine Token-Mengen an viele Wallets, um Transaktionsdaten zu analysieren und Rückschlüsse auf die Identität der Nutzer zu ziehen. Dies betrifft insbesondere Wallets, die pseudonym sind, aber durch Transaktionsanalyse deanonymisiert werden können. Daher ist Dust nicht nur ein kleiner Restbetrag, sondern auch ein Thema im Bereich Sicherheit und Privatsphäre in Kryptowährungen.
