    What is the Flappening?

    Flappening

By Redaktion cvj.ch on 3. April 2020 Glossary

"Flappening" describes the event when Litecoin (LTC) surpasses Bitcoin Cash (BCH) in market capitalization. Charlie Lee, the founder of Litecoin, coined the term in February 2018.

    Background on the Term "Flappening"

Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash are both forks of the Bitcoin network, intending to improve its transaction speed and scalability. "Flappening" is a play on the existing term "Flippening," initiated by the Ethereum community, which describes the same phenomenon but in the context of Ethereum (ETH) overtaking Bitcoin (BTC) in market capitalization.

By the end of the same year the term was invented, it's prediction came true. Litecoin exceeded Bitcoin Cash in market capitalization, a trend that continues to this day. Over time, additional metrics have been associated with the term "Flappening." There are also statistics comparing transactions, number of wallets, current price, transaction volume, or other data points. Thus, the term has expanded to encompass the comparison of various values, a trend also observed in the context of BTC and ETH.

The flippening (ETH>BTC) will never happen. But the flappening (LTC>BCH) will happen this year. 🐔🚀 pic.twitter.com/vn9XBdZNC3
